It's a Cohen-1 (C-1). Has to be because that's the only die variety for 1834.
But the Die State is causing me difficulty. Can't tell whether it's a DS 2.0 or 3.0. Right now I'm leaning towards a 2.0.
The rough surface on the reverse is not mentioned in Manley's book. A big part of the condition is that the reverse was used to strike 1833 Half Cents also.
If it grades VF then you matched the catalog value. Of course an XF grade means you beat catalog by about $30.
I think it makes XF45 also. eye appeal not the best and looking at the reverse under everything it has that rainbow look which in a lot of cases is an indication of cleaning and retoning and the reverse fields appear to have a light corrosion throughout. the coin may details due to these
This came in. Happy that reverse looks much better than seller's pics. The reverse dies look like they may have been rusted given some of the pimples in the reverse impression. For example under the E in AMERICA. Thoughts? Thanks!
