Hello everyone. I'm not exactly a new member but it has been about 6 years since I've been here. Maybe 7. A lot has happened since then. I got married, had a daughter, and now getting a divorce. About three years ago my father passed and about 3 weeks ago my grandfather did. I haven't pursued coins during the past 6 years or so like I did back then but I've picked up some here and there. Most of the coin conversation I've been engaged in was with my grandfather the past few years (he lived across the street from me). After he passed most of his coins were split between family members, cousins etc., who knows where else; but fortunately the ones he wanted me to have he already gave to me. Those are the most important ones anyway. Something occurred to me today though while me and my almost 4 year old where walking. The realization of leaving my coins to her, whatever I have at that time, when it occurs. And then it occurred to me that probably the only thing (at least one of the very few things) that I really care about is my cent album (in terms of material possessions). It is not complete and most of the keys are not there but it was put together in combination by the efforts of my grandfather, father and myself over a period of, idk 70 years. Something like that. Almost exclusively from circulation. Ive got other albums that I have worked on over the years, ones I've worked on with my dad and ones I've worked on with my granddad but there is something about the cent album that connects me to them in like a legacy kind of way. Maybe the quantity of coins that each put in it, or the knowledge that I know how young dad was when he started putting pieces in it. IDK. Its a special heirloom. I'm thinking of how to fill the empty holes and leaving one of the old holes empty for her to acquire a coin for. IDK, just thinking. Anyway...glad to be back.

Gee, hermanwilliams, (any relation to the paint magnate?)

Your coins, the cents especially, have meaning only
in connection to your dad and granddad. Wondering about leaving them to your daughter must include some thought
as to how to pass on the legacy.
Just sit with her and your cent album and start talking...
"Your grandpa and I used to look at these together. I loved those times...."
At first she won't care much about the coins, but as she gets older you might ask ""Gee, there are still some holes. Do you want to help me fill them up?"
You get the idea: sow the seeds of family history as well as
the idea off coin collecting. She will have kids of her own before the time comes to pass them down.
Rest in Peace

Ahh , I believe that's Sherman Williams !

It's always a nice thought to leave your coins to your children or Grandchildren . Though sometimes that doesn't quite work out the way you want it to .

Sorry about your personal losses but glad you have great memories of working on that cent album. Like others have said, now is the time to continue to build on those memories with your daughter. It will mean a lot to her, as it did you.

Welcome back home.
