Newest ebay purchase from a lot of 3, this one stood out to me and was the main reason I bid. Looks AU55 to me, and a good addition to the AU Seated quarter album I've started. Thanks.

AU58+.....hard to get a read on those fields through the toning. Nice pickup!

TPG's may "body bag" the coin.
The Reason: They may state that the black toning could be concealing problems.
A number of years back I had a coin that PCGS wouldn't slab, even as genuine, for that reason.

How do the surfaces look in hand, under magnification, Ploopy?

Surfaces look original, definitely not messed with. Just looks like darker toning. There is still some luster hidden under. The first set of pics is an accurate representation of how it looks under normal sunlight, maybe could benefit from some acetone.

Agree AU-58, but I don't think a straight grade is guaranteed.

I am inclined to agree with kanga on this one,
but I do like contrasting cameo effect, which helps to save it.
Irrespective of if it grades or not, I will say
AU-55 as well.

In an album of peer quarters, it would stand out as a black eye.

Potential value would justify slabbing costs, but I appreciate why you may not choose to do so.
In an album, the patina would help to protect it.

technically i'd put it at AU58 but I think the overall look of the coin and not knowing what the fields look like under that toning so I'm dropping it a notch. AU55

I don't see any lustre, so I'm going to have to say EF-45.
