So I've had this for awhile and just noticed it looked off . So I weighed it and it's almost a gram lighter then a similar coin . Is this something I should sent into get graded and have them figure it out ?

Look like a lot of wear along the edges. Can you post close-up pictures of the obverse and reverse?

According to the Red Book a Shield nickel should weigh 5 gms.
So even your comparison coin is light by 0.4 gm.

Have you checked the calibration of your scale recently?

0.4 gram loss on a highly circulated nickel is not unheard of. The 3.63 weight is not due to heavy circulation. I have charted the weight of thousands of coins and can provide pretty good correlation to grade (based solely on wear) from the weight of a coin.

Here are some better pics. I apologize they are from my cell phone .
And yes my scale is off by .03. I just bought it off ebay and knew I should've spent over 10$ . The coin is a lot thinner compared to another nickel

There's another picture of the coin on top of a 1868 nickel
And some pictures of a worn 1867 . Which I believe the coin in question is dated .
