1921 Morgan Dollar - Ebay Coin

Greetings drmenard. Well, I see no one here yet. Unusual. So I will be here. Haha. But I like you, am usually a 'Asker', not a 'advisor'. Lol. However, I have a number of Morgan's, and looked at tons of them for grading purposes/comparisons to mine. So I will give it a go.

First, that is a really nice Morgan overall. How I see it is a really nice Reverse, and a nice but degraded Obverse. Meaning your Reverse IMO is maybe a MS-65/66, and your Obverse is a MS-62/63. The Obverse degraders are the large gouge above the eye, and a couple smaller ones on the neck, and the scratch's in front of the chin area. I will tell you though, it is possible, being an overall really nice looking sample, and a grader in a good mood, it could get a MS-64. Lol I have seen MS-64's like this one. And again.it could be a PL (Proof-Like...see next paragraph for PL).

My rough guess is it won't go higher than a MS-63 overall. Again, the fields are very nice, at least per the two pictures. Clean and sharp. I can't tell, but if those fields have a Mirror like reflection, it could get a PL (Proof-Like) designation as well. That would help a lot in value (MS-63.$52 // MS-63 PL.$425.00). But can't tell with just those pictures other than it appears the devices are somewhat frosted, particularly the Reverse, and fields do look somewhat mirror like. There is a test by seeing how many inches a reflection can be seen clearly when you follow the procedure. You can look it up. That can determine if a PL designation is possible. It's not that hard from what I understand.

But again, due to those distracting gouges on the face, it really hurts the grade. If they were not there, that would be a really good MS grade IMO..65/66. Others will come along to give you more expert advice. Hope this helps for now.

It looks quite nice in the photos, which provide limited detail, but that gouge above the eye is going to keep it out of the higher grades. As best can be assessed from these photos I'd say MS-62 to MS-63 possibly PL.

I'm going to MS details, scratched. Hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for all the remarks. When I bid on the coin I did not see the gash above her eye, but when I got it made me sick. I will let you know what Anacs thinks.
