Hi all. I would like to know where this coin is from. To my limited Arabic reading skills, the denomination is 250, one is dated 1372, and one is 1377. This seems pretty early to be making bimetallic coins to me. I do have a catalog to look through, but I'd like to avoid going through several countries one at a time. I don't see any easy ID marks. I'm hoping one of y'all can help me.

It's an Iranian 250 rial.

Also, as of about last year, they changed the composition to just the yellow brass metal

As for the dates, ... my 1988 50 rial has the same "date"...

Iran (and neighbouring Afghanistan) use a different calendar to the rest of the Islamic world; they use the Solar Hegira calendar, which converts to the AD calendar simply by adding 622. Thus, a coin dated SH 1377 was struck in AD 1999.

Yes Iran, I came across one in a joblot I bought about a month ago. The lotus is a generally Asian symbol/flower, though people would more commonly associate it with Japan. It is also in the centre of the flag of India.
