Hello,

I am looking at these 1902 AP Nicholas II Russian Czar 5 Roubles Gold Coin of Russia NGC MS65 .1245ozt.

When I look them up on the NGC certificate verification site, it tells me they are worth $1600 and up. The mintages are high.

When I look up the 10 rouble it says the value is $500 or so. Mintages are lower.

Whats up with this, is it an error on the NGC site?
I read online that a 5 roubles gold coin can be had for just over spot price.

Thanks for your help

I think it could be an error but prie guides don't always reflect the market.

This is one of many cases in which the NGC world price guide is detached from current market reality.

You can go here to find recent auction sales of MS level examples of this coin:
https://www.coinarchives.com/w/resu...&results=100

Top price I saw for MS-65 this year was 36,000 JPY or slightly under
$350.

This the response I got from NGC.

"We lease our world coin data from what was Krause Publications. There are a lot of price issues with that data and the 5 Roubles are part of that issue. I will make sure that they are aware of it. "

Now, what am I suppose to do. I made some ebay bids based on that info. Do you think I can retract my bids? I sent the sellers messages to do so, but what happens if they don't and iI win the item, do I pay? Should I pay? Does NGC have any liability?

The bad news is that the highest (and most recent) ebay sale of this coin in this grade went for $325 as a BIN.

The good news is that my experience is that honest ebay auctions generally sell slightly lower than BIN. The highest recent selling price in an ebay auction was $305.
The other good news is that if you bid based on the NGC info, you will definitely win it.

When placing bids on ebay, the best research to do is an ebay sold items search in my opinion.

Stop using NGC for price info.

Search ebay for bid retraction instructions. You can retract the bid yourself, you don't need to involve the seller.
