Why did someone carve a cross behind Constantine's eye? I would be surprised if a Christian had defaced a coin of Constantine. Could a pagan have displayed his disgust with the emperor? Is such graffiti common?

Looks like normal wear and tear to me. Might have happened in circulation, or it could be a product of farming after having been deposited.

I'm not convinced either that the mark is intentional put there. It's still kinda cool that it looks like a cross though.
