BuyGuns Valued Member United States 335 Posts	Posted 07/02/2020 11:04 pm FINAL GRADE: MS63 Dave700x, probably a avg grade of your two separate grades, as I hear they sometimes take the average Obverse/Reverse. I think there is a style of grading called Technical and Overall? Or something like that. Could be wrong. May explain your comment/grade. I think this Morgan was stored on Obverse side taking the pressure over time, hence, the even wear/flatness about the bust/hair/bonnet. Clean otherwise. The in-hand iridescant colors are superb. But no way to see but to hold it. And mirror's? PL? thought it would easily get that. Very reflective. But MS-63 it is. Onward.... Report this Post to the Staff

I'd be at MS-64 for this one and only because of the hit to the left of the Eagle's left wing. Obverse looks MS-65, assuming the Trueview photos aren't hiding any marks. panzaldi Bedrock of the Community United States 18681 Posts	Posted 07/03/2020 08:58 am i had it at MS63. the strike is weak for a 98(P) and the luster subdued which probably contributed to the lower grade but PCGS is getting tougher on Morgans. I've learned to knock a point for anything coming back from them. not sure whats causing that. maybe rookies that dont want to overgrade Report this Post to the Staff

This particular example has weakness due to strike at many of the high points, so the first step was distinguishing wear, if present, from strike weakness. Usually the easiest way to do this is detect a change in color. If a change in color occurs on a high point (not due to toning) than usually that's a good indicator of some sort of wear. One said high AU for me was the outer wing tips, and the top of Liberty's cap. All that said, I have no problem with this in a MS holder. Report this Post to the Staff
