Mint Mark On 1943/44 French Vichy 2 Franc Coins

David Graham Pillar of the Community Australia 1616 Posts	Posted 07/04/2020 03:09 am Am currently sorting my french coins and have 6 1943 and 2 1944 French Vichy 2 Franc Coins. According to Numista some of these coins had a B or C mint mark. I can't spot any mint marks. Now I now the chances are mine don't have mint marks as these were most common however I decided to google some images to make sure I was looking in the right spot. Well I can't find any pics of mint marks on these coins. Can a kind soul with these coins that have mint marks please post a pic showing location of mint marks? Thanks Report this Post to the Staff

Gincoin43 Pillar of the Community United States 1543 Posts	Posted 07/04/2020 04:09 am The mint mark is to the right of the axe. no mint mark coins are from Paris. Since they minted as many coins in Paris each year as the other two combined most of the one you see will not have a mint mark. I think numista used a Beaumont coin though if you want to compare. I spent a lot of time in France as a teenager in the 1970s and most of my aluminium 1 and 2 franc coins were taken from circulation. At the time they were still legal tender for 1 and 2 centimes, although seldom used, and if I spotted a whole lot of them in a shop till when making a purchase, I'd ask for some in change!
