Purchased this 1911 D from ebay based on markers I saw in the listing. I needed a 1911 D for set I'm putting together so total cost of around $15 I thought was worth the risk.

I think it is the D/D/S from coppercoins.com

https://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln...ie_state=mds

In hand it is a bit flatter than I thought, but was able to overlay mint mark and Id 1 of the 2 possible markers on both obverse and reverse sides.

Congrats, looks like you are correct and it appears that you have the version with the second reverse die.

CC has this as OMM-1 while VV has it as RPM-5. The reverse die crack says it all.

Hi Sheldius! Everything looks correct from what I see here. The die markers you found seem to match and the Mint mark position is correct. Nice find! Maybe you can get a better photo of the mint mark to show the OMM clearer? What's Interesting is I notice that VarietyVista has it listed as an RPM.

Thanks CentSation and CH27.

My USB scope has a plastic protector cup about 1/2 inch tall that doesn't allow me to get real close. Probably so you don't bounce the camera on the surface. Maybe it won't focus closer anyway, but I'll have to look at removing this safety stop.

I can digitally crop photos I took with different angle/light, so larger on this screen, but the image resolution doesn't really get higher. Hope it helps.

The ring was a light defuser I think, since there is a lot of housing protecting the camera above it. Can't smack it into table. Get to close and there dark area where LED lights don't cover. Would need an outside light source.

So here is the closest / best I can do right now on mint marks. You can see the D or "S" south of main D.

Your pics are nice and looks like a good coin. In fact, looks like you might have upper remnants of the secondary that CC and VV don't show [green arrows].

Also, it does not look like you have the die cracks under the MM [blue circle], Can you confirm whether you do, or not?

... I ended up just breaking off that diffuser.

Sure thing CentSation. I just took the piece off myself too. LOL.

I definitely don't have the die crack under the MM like in Stage D on Variety Vista. And the die crack by the wheat ear has the bend in it (where my arrow is in previous photo) like the one on copper coins, not the straight cracks like in VV.

Thanks for the feedback sheldius.

My copy is similar to yours in that I also have the second reverse with no obverse crack below the MM so maybe CCs mid-die stage is akin to VVs early stage D.
