G'day & welcome,
I'd like to have an Elgin watch ...
Your coin is a shilling from the United Kingdom.
The obverse shows King George IV.
The reverse has been enamelled. I don't know why people did this, but they did it a lot with coins of this era, and I have several of them.
I could understand it more readily if the coin were drilled to become a pendant, or otherwise mounted to be worn as a brooch, but there are plenty of them just like yours.

Your shilling is "sterling", which means it is 92.5% silver.

An interesting piece: it is fascinating to speculate when the watch and the coin begain their journey together ...

to the forum, I think the enamelling was done at a later date perhaps in 1917 and the coin was kept as a good luck peice.

As this article explains, the height of the enamelling craze was in the mid-to-late 1800's, during the reign of Queen Victoria.
