Hi all! PCGS just certified this coroned cent dated 1834 as "Small stars", but in my specialised book the only 1834 cent with "S" in "STATES" standing quite to the right from leafs below is the rare N-5 variety which is Large stars, not small. Any opinions?
Once again, NEVER trust an attribution assigned by PCGS or NGC. This IS the rare 34 N-5, and it has LARGE stars, large 8 , and "medium" letters. (yes I know they didn't give it a Newcomb number, but the "small stars" description is enough to throw it off. There is only one small star obv in 1834 and it is on N-3 and N-4 which are both common.)
So did they mess up your submission or did you cherry pick this one?
Hello, Conder101, thanks for the confirmation! I sent a few coins through a dealer and today I learned about this error, but anyway, I will use the PCGS holder only for the quality of the coin - fine details. Will not send it again.
