Hmmmm.....I know what your coin is and will be happy to help but maybe it's time for you to start to id your coins at least give it a go!? The date and mint are very clearly defined.....Here's a link that will help you. Then maybe return with your attribution to get it clarified?.....

I am going to guess this is Khusrow II from "GD" Gay, Media Mint. I am really confused about the regnal numbers though. I am looking in the forum ancient coins dating page but cannot see a number similar to mine.

Based on that link I see Hormizd IV. Is that correct?

I am ultra confused on the date, these letters must not be fully formed like you said. I would guess year 33, but its not a match

Awesome thanks! I appreciate the help guiding me through the steps, it was fun. The regnal date was definitely the hardest part. The Forum Ancient Coins dating page's "33" looks similar yet quite different to my coin. Is there a better resource to use for Sassanian coin dating?

And is there a certain print copy Sassanian coin guide you would recommend?

Paul I already suggested he start doing that, and I think he might be trying but not sure how much effort he is putting into it.

I agree it's Hormizd IV, good job.

Im sorry echizento and Paul, I will not come unprepared again. My issue with Sassanian coins is the level of confusion that goes into identifying the regnal dates/mints. I wont let that scare me next time or similar things with future other coins. I realize that you guys do spend a lot of time helping me and I should do more work myself. I promise that I will not post something without a clue like I often do. I have a couple Western Kshatrapa Drachms coming in the mail soon, so I'll do my best to use my respurces before coming to this forum.

@twood89....Nice one...Don't be afraid at trying to id Sasanian coinage, give it your best shot and then ask for verification...All collectors of this type have problems with the dates!....Look forward to seeing your Western Kshatrapas coins...Paul

I collect Sasanian coins and have a number of Kings in my collection. I know first hand that it is difficult to read the date and mint marks. Paul is a bit better than me in that area. For the most part identification of the kings are fairly easy once you get the hang of it. I recommend if you are going to collect these to get a hold of Robert Gobl's "Sasanian Numismatics. It's a must have, cost of the book is about $15. You can find it on Vcoins or on ebay.
