I have a 1891 Canadian Penny. I am pretty sure what I have is a large leaf coin, but what I am unsure of is the date, whether it is considered small or large. I am new to this coin stuff and although I have been able to figure out most of the coins, but this one, I just don't get. Any help is appreciated.

Please explain how you reached your conclusion, so I can learn what to look for.

Large Date cent. Nice coin! You're best just to examine good pics of the small date and compare the two. Notice the nine's fat shaft (body) of the large date cent. There are different large date nines but the small date nine is slender and should stand out after careful study.

Check the centre of the 9 - the large 9 has an almost round centre, the narrow 9 has a long oval.

I'd grade yours as EF-45.
