That is true about stickies being ignored pretty quick, so I can agree with you on that.
I'm not sure about other "new members", but I had no idea what Machine Doubling, Mechanical Doubling, or Strike Doubling even was, until I stumbled upon it.
(Too bad this would only work, IF they actually used the search button in the first place. Personally, I just started clicking on random topics and reading posts, like most people would probably do.)
I tried typing Machine Doubling into the search bar on the left side of the page. The top four results were for ADs, then the 6th link did happen to be the one I posted at the top of this page.
Now, if they clicked the search "button" near the top middle of the page where it shows Home - Tools - Members etc, then it will show plenty of results for the topics about Machine Doubling. Except that the particular topic I linked, doesn't show up until the middle of page 19, so they would have to piece together information instead of having it all in one topic.
It is however, halfway down the first page of the "Post Your..." Gallery Topics" which is inside the General Numismatic Discussion Forum, if they knew to look there.
Then again, if a new member actually wants to start coin collecting, or already has been and wants to learn more about it, plus talk to others who are interested in numismatics, then I'm sure they will read many of the different topics and find all the information they need eventually.
I am terribly sorry about rambling on like this in yet another post of mine, but you have to agree that most people, would make a membership here, just to post a couple pictures of a coin they found and hope they strike it rich.
