Recently I've been looking into paper money grading. I learned that grading polymer bills over an image can be quite difficult. While browsing the web for samples, I came across a bill whose grade does not make a lot of sense. I would appreciate it if someone could explain this to me:

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2012-RADAR-...fc98%7Ciid:1

I see no fold or ripple (although I know they can be hard to see). The corners are sharp. The colours do not seem faded. I must be missing something!

I believe the picture in the ebay listing is a scanned picture which will show not show fold or creases as well as a picture taken with a camera. Scanned pictures are more flat.

- I agree. Plus the scan was taken with the top up (so image has black background) which typically makes banknote colours look brighter/nicer. I detect a slight horizontal fold across the entire note but it does look in nice shape.

On Canadian polymer bills the clear see through windows can have many scratches and hairlines that wont be noticeable in the picture but greatly affect the grading. Also because Canadian bill designs bleed right to the edge of the note, there are no visibly defined borders around the note, so the bill in question could be slightly off in the way it was cut which will also affect grades as well.
