Anyone know anything about the below bill? My mother's boyfriend has had this bill personally for 30 years and upon seeing it I immediately became interested in it... Any info would be appreciated... I am looking to find out the history of this type of bill, how many were printed, its individual worth... etc...

You have what appears to be a $1,000 Dollar Confederate Bank note. This is a Montgomery note. Most likely printed in Montgomery, Alabama. Not sure what it's worth but I read that there is alot of fakes of these particular notes.
Your particular note appears to be a fake as described by the discription on the following link due to the lack of the black and green color that the notes were printed with during the period. These notes were not printed with a series #297 as well. They were printed with a series number of #101 They were counterfitted at high volumes during and after the civil war. So your note appears to be from the period, just counterfitted.
Following is a list of the dates that the particular series was issued by the Confederate States of America.

1861

First Issue 101-106 Series
Second Issue 107-112 Series
Third Issue 113-138 Series

1862

Fourth Issue 201-207 Series
Fifth Issue 209-215 Series

1863

Sixth Issue 301-308 Series

1864

Seventh Issue 401-409 Series

On the left bottom corner is John C. Calhoun and on the right bottom corner is Andrew Jackson.

There is not a accurate count of the number that were actually printed because of the high amount of counterfits that were created during the period.

Check out this link.
Click the All Discriptions and Pics tab and then click First Issue. This will link you directly with this note.
Hope this helps.

I got one from my father like that, and I looked into it, I would say it is counterfeit because the signature is signed in black ink, and I believe that they never signed in black, it was a color like brown, blue, etc... (dont qoute me for this tho, I'm not positive!)

This site is an excellent index of counterfeit Confederate and other early American notes; simply look up the denomination and serial number, and see if you find a match.

In this case, there is indeed a match; the $1000 with serial number 297 is marked as being most common.
