In a purchase from a bank I came into 21 rolls of 1963D pennies, not circulated and still in the original wrappers from 1963.

So, question is, what does one do with these? Keep in the wrappers, transfer to tubes?

I know about the DDO error which I will be checking for, but beyond that this situation is new to me.

Thanks for any help or comments.

First of all as an OBW Lincoln Cent roll collector I can tell you that is an incredible find from a bank . You can do one of two things ; Open them and look for errors or put them in plastic tubes and hold them for the long term , though a common date and mint , right now they have a value of about $1.50 to $4.25 a roll .
Just a tip : open one roll , If a lot of them are spotty and not all red then don't bother tubing them .

So, would it be helpful to have some images of these rolls. I have never encountered this before and I don't know if it is better to keep them in the original paper rolls or tube them.

More to come.

Opened three rolls before I realized what I had. Believe me I was very surprised.

Hmm, the ones in customer wrapped rolls should not be solid dates , unless it was a collection dump .

That is what I thought too. I checked all of them and all contain the 1963D uncir pennies.

Notice that the address on the wrapper maker is from before the introduction of the ZIP code introduced in 1963.

@ T-Bop, I think you are correct about a collection dump. That is what my father would do with his pennies 50 years ago....sort and roll by year and mint.

@ Sign, probably a once in a lifetime find. Congratulations
