I'm the "1972 silver quarter guy". I have done every test that people replied and it passes. I got so many people being rude that I threw it back in my collection for another day. Does anyone have any information on the 1972 silver quarter that got graded? I have 3 kids and it's not in the budget to send my coin in, but I really wanted to read about that and can't find anything.

It may cost you a couple of bucks but you need to take it to a jewelry store, coin shop or pawn shop and have it tested.

Have you weighed it? If it weighs 6.25 grams, that would be a start, a clad quarter should weigh about 5.7 grams.

Previous thread here.

I'm in agreement with previous determinations of others, it's a sand casted copy, possibly done in 90% silver but it's light, so maybe it's a different alloy of silver. Maybe 40%? for 40% weight should be 5.75grams, very close to the clad planchet weight of 5.67 grams.

One thing is for sure, the surfaces, and the edge are fishy, and the weight is that of a plated clad quarter, which makes sense if someone didn't know a silver quarter weighed more than a clad quarter.

And really? Been popping in and out about this coin for 2 years and haven't ponied up the $100 to know for sure and keep coming back for opinions instead?

This thread her:

was a 1972 overstruck on a 1964 silver quarter planchet, 90% silver.

the picture you showed is definitely not that.

What I think you have is someone made a sand mold and melted down some silver and some filler metal and made this one you showed in the other thread from 2018.
