1787 NJ 53-J was graded details with environmental damage. I see some porosity, especially on the plow. Is that the environmental damage being referred to?

Details grade for sure, consistent ED pitting, but still an attractive example.

Thank you for the inputs. It is graded AU details by PCGS. Besides the plow pitting, I also think it looks very attractive.

corroded planchet. this is more than just porosity.

these early copper planchets were not really stored and transported with too much care. you can see this with many early large cent planchets which were transported in wooden kegs and subjected to the salt air crossing the atlantic. I'm not into these but assuming that these may have had the same fate. in any case this is a cool coin and nicely struck
