I am excited to be here - have been lurking for a short while checking things out before I signed up. Seems like a cool and knowledgeable community. I am middle aged now, but started collecting common/low cost stuff as a kid, in part from purchasing coins from bank and sorting.

In the 50's and 60's my grandpa ran the only bakery in our hometown. Secretaries of numerous local businesses would "pass the coffee cup" each morning collecting change to go buy donuts or other sweets. My grandpa always kept an eye on the change stream and pulled anything interesting out. He also had a couple of friends that were tellers at the local bank who hold anything interesting out for him and he could trade for whatever they had collected at face value. He ended up with a pretty cool collection over the years, most of which was procured at face value. I always loved looking at his collection and listening to his stories about how and where he collected each piece.

Fast forward to the present - both of my grandparents have passed, and my dad inherited the coin collection. He had no interest in it, and knew that I did, so he passed it down to me. From time to time I pull it out and sort through it a little at a time. I had some questions on what a couple of coins would grade (I understand the system of grading, the basics, and have a little bit of an eye for it, based on some of the grade posts on here and elsewhere). I was looking for a source of knowledge where I could get a little confirmation to make informed decisions on whether grading makes sense. Once I get some decent pictures of first wave of coins, I would like to start posting them up in the grading section for feedback and discussion.

I look forward to being part of the community here.
