1776-1976 D Quarter. Possible Error Coin. Can Someone Help Me Please

Mr1969s New Member United States 13 Posts	Posted 09/24/2020 11:23 pm I am pretty green to coin collecting and really want to learn more about it. I came across this Bicentennial Quarter at the Laundromat. I tried looking it up and I might have a coin on another coins planchet? It also has a possible Cud error. Remember I'm a newbie so take it easy on me. Haha.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Report this Post to the Staff

SamCoin Pillar of the Community United States 3237 Posts	Posted 09/25/2020 12:24 am I don't see anything on this coin that looks like an error, but holding the coin with metal forceps is a terrible idea. You'd do way less damage holding it by the rims with clean fingers than by pinching the fields with stainless steel serrations. Looks like the correct planchet, but you might want to look up what a Cud is - I don't see anything on here that could be mistaken for one. A Cud is a die chip that occurs at the rim of the coin and includes some of the field or design (one that only affects the rim is called a rim Cud, and a chip not touching the rim is just called a die chip).
