I have read the fascinating threads about the Potosi broken castle issue where so many experienced and renowned forum members took part. A real pleasure to read and some posts I have also bookmarked for the precious information they have.

I understand that all samples containing the broken castle are suspect, and in fact I find the previous sample rather strange-looking.

I also found curious -to some extent- the sloppiness shown in the reverse die design (the weird contour of the shield, the curved column, the five-legged lion , etc.) but then I also found a matching reverse die coin which has been sold quite recently on Heritage auctions:


This one sold for more than $1.800- and was previously auctioned by Sedwick also for a high sum the year before.

And both reverses look like a perfect match:



However I still have lots of doubts about it...

Hi jgenn! That would be great, but sadly I am not the owner.
However, I might be interested in making an offer for it and that's the reason why I posted in the community before making any commitments.
I owned many Potosi pieces but I am not quite sure about this one.

I will try to examine it in person. The seller has at least one other Potosi broken castle sample that I am aware of -in better grading- among many other colonial pieces.
