I just received a $500 dollar half dollar bank box(the one with the holes in the box). Every single coin is a 2000 D JFK BU Half dollar.

Is this a common thing ? I thought it was strange, also are they worth anything other than 50 cents ? I saw a BU 2000 D being sold for 1.35 to 2.00 online. Ill probably just trade them back next week. Thanks for any advice/opinions

Unbelievable

If you can afford to hold the money for a awhile pop them nad see what you can get for them on here or on e-bay by the piece, by the roll or
possibly the whole box. If they are going steadily for a dollar a piece that is still doubling your money. Then you can get 2 boxes to search next time

A few years back I got a box with just 1995D BU rolls. I traded BU roils for other dates and sold a few for $14 a roll plus shipping. The rest have either been spent or used as fillers to replace silver removed from boxes.

Checking ebay close prices looks like 2000D are selling for about $12 a roll so probably not worth while putting them on ebay

The JFK Half was issued for 'circulation' (ie: to the Federal Reserve and then to the banks in those BU-roll boxes) through 2000 (Philly) and 2001 (Denver).

My credit union still has a few bank boxes of 2001-D BU rolls, as I found out from the teller when she got me a roll from the vault.

so how common is this ? my fear is that the bank I ordered from will just keep sending me BU boxes out of the same corner of the warehouse and ill never get any silver

its the box with the holes in the top, maybe I should ask them to order somewhere else ? dop you think its likely to happen again ?

I've gotten BU boxes before, only once that I can remember, most are circulated

I kept the 2001-D BU roll I got. Why not, it is a roll of the last true 'circulated' JFK Halves, and I got it for face value ($10).

Someone just asked me if I could buy them some Half-Dollar rolls at my credit union, and I said "Yeah, but they'll be 2001-D rolls, because the teller told me they still have several boxes of those in the vault!"

This guy's a 'silver hunter' of course, but he did give me $10 to get a 2001-D roll for his grandson, and he 'tipped' me with a 1969-D JFK. (probably because I effectively 'warned' him that he wouldn't be getting any silver!)

I am picking up another box of halves today........and I would be DEVASTATED were that to happen to me !
I'm just looking for silver.....or proofs.....BU anything else goes back to the bank, but, I'm not an ebay quick turnaround "profit hunter" so.......that could be an avenue to pursue. And, yeah, there could be some interest right here on CCF......once you have 50 posts, you could sell them right here as already suggested.
