Hi all! A local dealer friend recently acquired this note in a small collection he purchased. I believe the blue ink could be from a paper band that held a stack together once upon a time. Is this PMD (if that's what it's called in the currency world) or is this anything special? Thanks for your thoughts.

Looks like a stamp of some sort. Is there a design in it?

I don't believe there is a design. I don't have it in hand at the moment, but from what I remember, it seemed odd.

In terms of the inking/printing process, it is hard for me to think of a way the blue ink could have been printed on the bill like that at the BEP. Since it is not any of the typical smear, offset, overprint, alignment, etc. errors, I think you have to default to post printing damage. Good question on if there is a PMD-like acronym for banknotes. I don't know.

Thanks @jbuck!

@captaincoffee - That's what I was wondering as well. How would this blue ink appear during the printing process as, apart from the serial number, there is no source of blue ink on the note? It seems unlikely that it's an error, but it's always worth an ask.
