I am not normally a nickel guy but according to Variety Vista this is supposed to be a fairly rare nickel. 1972 D ODV-023 paired with the RDV-007. Pics 6 and 7 were borrowed from Variety Vista. Any Jefferson nickel guys out there, tell me what you think.

Was not aware of this variety before, thanks for sharing it!

It does look to match RDV-007, but the Adam's apple doesn't seem very high relief to me. Looking at PCGS images yours looks closer to the lower relief (ODV-022), but then again this variety is new to me.

The ponytail is the tell tail on the RDV-006. Very high relief.

I have tried to understand this one before and could never see what was different between RDV-007 and RDV-006. I feel like I'm playing one of those "spot the difference" games when I look at the pictures on variety vista, and the description is hard to understand (thin vertical on right side of what? Where?)

I see the difference between RDV-006 and 007, subtle, but I see it.

The OBV-022/023 though, I don't see any difference in the ponytail.

On the PCGS site for 1972 5c, the top four images look to have a higher relief Adam's apple than the last three. (So I assume first 4 are -023 and last 3 are -022) But I do not see any noticeable differences in the ponytail between these two groups of images.

That is the thin raised line on the right side that Variety Vista is referring to when describing the RDV-007. On Variety Vista it does not show this reverse paired with anything but the ODV-023. If it were paired with the ODV-022, wouldn't that make it a new discovery?

I missed that the first time I looked.

No idea what to think about this one.

I think it's definitely ODV-023. It just looks a little flat from circulation wear. ODV-022 is much weaker in the Adam's apple than this one.

The circulation wear theory is my thought as well.
