I've been trying to put together as nice a set of the 1965 varieties as possible through my own hunting for the last 6 months. I've been able to find a lot of small bead varieties, but the large beads (both blunt and pointed) seem more difficult to locate.

Anyone have insight on the availability of large bead 1965 Canadian silver dollars? Are the small beads more popular (they certainly seem to be!).

I have been looking in the sets also, but the sealed 1965 sets often appear to be small bead varieties.

Are there any tips on where to find cellophane-wrapped large bead varieties? With a large bead varieties ever put in cellophane or distributed in sets? Am I wasting my time looking for large bead varieties in wrapped mint sets?

Thanks.

Thanks for replying!
I understand the differences with the varieties and how to identify them. I am aware over 10M were made, but I don't know how common each variety is (although none of them seem to be "rare"). I have found it tough/impossible to find any large bead varieties in cellophane.
The coins in your eBay-linked auction are not in the condition I'm looking for. I don't like toning, hence the effort to find coins still in the wrapper. The small bead varieties in cellophane seem plentiful.
Hence, my questions. Anyone know any background...perhaps the large beads were never sent out in sets, so no need to waste my time looking there? Were the large beads only sent to banks, vice any collector sets?
Cheers.

The Type 3 and 4 Large bead coins were never issued in sets .
They are back door jobs in Prooflike and generally come with superb Cameos .
Many are for sale on ebay in certified PL65 and PL66 . They are not cheap!
As per circulation strikes all five types are readily available .
The Type 4 1965 Pointed 5 Large beads is somewhat scarce .
The Type 3 1965 Blunt 5 Large Beads is quite common.
The Type 5 1965 Medium Beads is harder to find , but available from most dealers.
Hope this helps .

That's very helpful, thanks.
I have 4 out 5 varieties, but looking for nicer versions...without paying through the nose for those slabbed options!
Good to know I can also stop pouring through sets for large beads, too!

"They are back door jobs in Prooflike and generally come with superb Cameos" .
are you referring to individual coins or sets?
Not exactly sure what you mean with BD-jobs.
packaging or the actual striking maybe while having a "smoke-break?"
Oh, forgot, nobody at the mint would ever do something like that back in 65....lololololo
