I picked up 12 LMC's yesterday at an auction- the bag had a label of off center. They are all larger than a typical LMC. Wouldn't that make them a broad strike? The attached is 4 out of the group. All are very similar except the 1998 at the bottom of the photo. I apologize for not following the one coin per post.

I also picked up a bag of 12 Jefferson nickels that were labeled off center, but all are out of round and larger than a typical nickel.

If the design is full, I think of it as broadstruck. If part of the design is missing, as these coins, I think of it as off center. Both types happen outside of the collar.

This is a good explainer for your question, yokozuna explained it well, too. Basically if the design is 100% complete it's either a broadstrike or uncentered broadstrike, anything missing is considered off center.

As an aside, that bottom one is much more special than the others, it has an indent on the reverse from another planchet that was in the striking chamber at the same time as this one. It's why you see so much "skidding" on the design, the extra metal from the second planchet stretched the surface of the coin much more than usual, ripping apart the copper layer and exposing the zinc core.

Thanks all! Great information! Now to decide what to do with them! Any reason to send to TPG? I am guessing not enough value to justify cost of grading.

I wouldnt say so, the off center uniface is probably worth $20-40 and the others $2-5 each depending on the mood of ebay at the time. Still a nice pickup! Thanks for showing them!

I agree. Not worth as much as you'd think.

Your 98 cent pictured in lowest part is particularly interesting,it is a Uniface and does carry a premium slightly above the regular Off-Center piece.

This is the only other one that is slightly different from rest. It does not lay flat- has some deflection to it. I assume the zinc that is showing is due to the metal being stretched to much?

Sorry to be a downer but I am still in the early stages of education with errors and varieties, so bare with me. I totally get why only one coin should be pictured per post.
To someone in the same grade level the references to the coins may not be an issue. But I find myself lost because there are so many coins to which the discussion is referring.
Again, sorry. I'm sure it will be obvious one day, but not so much today..
