I agree that the second 'E' is has obviously taken a hit but it's not so easy to see what's going on with the first 'E'.

No obvious damage to first E.
Looks pretty good to me. No sign of damage or wear where base of E should be.
Doubt it is PMD.
More likely to be struck through small drop of oil amazingly placed on planchett at time of striking.

Good coin to have.
