and I couldn't get to the bank. I had a couple of hours to kill so I went and grabbed my neighbor's jar of coins that he was taking to the bank today (with his permission of course ). I found about 20 quarters that I needed for my Whitman folders. I also found a 1940 nickel and a 1958 nickel. My list of modern coins needed to complete the Whitman folders is getting quite low. The kids (and I) are getting excited to finish. Amazingly, the only cent we need for the 1975-present book is the 2008-D. Maybe I'll grab my other neighbor's jar today.

I just can't believe what one little Cub Scout meeting got me started on. I've been coin roll hunting, I've been to the local coin shop (numerous times), my wife is getting me the Big Red Coin Book for Christmas, and I even joined a coin community forum!
I'd just like to thank each of you for the knowledge that you share day in, day out with beginners like me. It makes it that much more fun to participate in the hobby.

You may be shocked at how many people have an old jar, can, box, cup, etc full of coins just waiting for you. You've just got to ask.

Hopefully you can find the 2008-D. Where do you live. I live in Louisiana and can find rolls of P and D at the banks!

..and so it begins...
It can be an addiction and it is great to see you are able to do this with your son. My 8 year old and I enjoy coin searching together as well.
Welcome to the Club.

Believe it or not, I had a hard time finding that 2008 D as well. But now I have a nice one and am starting to see many more in circulation.

Very cool. I'm surprised your neighbor was willing to let you look through his money.

Well, I've known him for 4+ years, and I've babysat his girls. If he trusts me to watch his kids, I guess he figured he could trust me with $200 in coins.

About 1963, while attending college, my room mate worked as a bartender in his spare time. He had several jars full of quarters. He told me to feel free to look through them all for coins I needed. It's been so long ago, I can't remember now how many I took, and paid him for. Sure wish I had those jars available now!
Speaking of coins which are hard to find, I have yet to see a single 2008 nickel. Have even checked with the banks and credit union, but they don't seem to exist in my part of western Colorado.

Good stories! I've gotten hooked on the roll/circulation searching too. I would love to go through jars of change, there's always so much great stuff! Gary Burke: That's interesting, I got a 2008P nickel in one of my Canadian nickel rolls not too long ago I seem to be doing all right for American coins when I'm not looking for them

The couches have been checked. It's time to bother the other neighbors.
