It looks like there is shadowing in "we trust". Is that die deteriation?

Careful, someone may accuse you of having VAMmers eye.
What you see is the deterioration of the punch used for many years to create that motto in the master hubs. There are actually examples that are worse than yours.
1904-O is a fun subset to collect with quite a variety of anomalies (VAMs).
