Merc Crazy, I use a 1 gallon plastic jar that once held pickled eggs. I filled it and shook to settle while doing so. Then I took it to the coin counter at my bank...did it 8 times and it was anywhere from $50.60 to $51.80.I count that as $50 when I sell the coppers. They get a couple bucks extra but hey, it's good business. When you do that, just make sure to have a routine and keep it...I learned that from loading rifle cartridges.

I talked to my girlfriend... she's unemployed at the moment, so I may just pay her a portion of my profits from selling the copper to count them out by hand. But I like your idea as well.

I know this is probably a doofey question, but it's mine nonetheless. My grandson and I are starting him a cent collection. Grammy here has a magnifying glass now that helps but I'm confused. I thought that D = Denver P = Philadelphia and S = San Francisco. Why are so many cents lacking any marking at all? Is there a default? If it's not marked it's ____________? I know this is probably a stupid question, but I'm a newbie and if not here, where do I ask the dumb questions?

yes birdies:

D is for denver
S is for san francisco
p is for philli

and no mint mark usually means it is a philli coin. for instance, modern quarters and nickels will have the p on the obverse when they are from philli, but modern philli pennies will have no mint marks at all and we can assume they are philli. denver pennies will have the d on them.

While searching a Brinks box last nite I pulled a '82 that looked like it was struck on a nickle or dime planchett. I know you want pictures and I will get to that in a day or so but I was wondering if I missed something about the 82 crossover from copper to zinc. Could this be a practice run on a different metal? Doesn't look plated or tampered with?

Finished a box last night & there was not one wheat! The rolls were not plastic wrapped but paper. Has anybody ever went through a whole box and not found a wheat?
