Hmmm... a light cleaning on this, hmmm minted in Japan, yes I see... Hmmm...I'm going to have to give this one a -13/70. Yes, hmmm thats seems right.

A while ago, my grandfather gave me his old penny jars--roughly $50 worth of pennies between four applesauce jars. About 90% of them are copper (I asked him about this, and he said that he switched to checks and cards in the 80s), and there are a substantial number of BU coins from roughly '79-85. At least $3 is BU '82 large date cents. Are these worth anything above copper value? I know that '82 is the single most common date of any denomination in our country's history, but I have seldom run into uncirculated specimens.

Hi Finn... for the best response, I'd recommend you start a new thread and ask about specific coins... posting here within this thread may not be read by as many members since this thread is linked to searching bank rolls. And remember, we like to see photos!
To answer your question, there are many varieties within Lincoln cents to look for, and I'm recommend learning about them. Collectors will always want BU Lincolns, and many of the post 82 non copper zinc pennies do not hold up well in circulation, so in future years demand may be higher for Choice BU examples.

40 CWRs rolls down-next time'll get 10 extra. wheats: 14-two steelies, both in the same roll both with glue on them stuck to other pennies  oldest: 1918(2)  Plus a MS 1938 copper: 543/2000 27.15% foreign: MS 1964 canadian, 2 cent euro Also: 2 "gold" chemistry experiment pennies, I actually did this a few weeks ago. somehow I ended up with 2. look gold in color but its just a brass color. 1960-D small date I'd bet it was some kids penny jar-lots of canadians as well-kinda goes with the 2 "gold" pennies. Not a bad 40 rolls! Too bad it was all they had. |

I'm going though $110 FV in east coast zinc, got a 1998 WAM so far, but I'm only about a box worth in. |

The large date copper ones, not much, but if they are nice, red BU cents I save them in tubes. The zinc 82's are another story, they are more scarce than the copper other than the small date, 82 copper. Those are very scarce and worth saving. To complete my BU roll set I had to buy a roll of the 1982 SD coppers! They are VERY tough to find. |

Just want to note a general observation I've, well, observed about the 2011 cent.
I hate the relief on the obverse. I loved the 2010 cent because of the high relief, but for the 2011 version, the relief seems lowered... a lot... and in my opinion it looks worse than the pre-2010 cents..
Just a rant..

After reading through another post here regarding large and small date 1970-S cents, I was inspired to take a look at my S cents I have found while searching through 3 bank boxes. I am in central Ohio and S mintmarks are not very common, so I always save every S cent I come across. So I realised I have a total of nine 1970-S pennies, and looking at them carefully and comparing all of them against photos supplied here on CCF, I think I have TWO of the small date 1970-S pennies! Sorry, but they both look like large dates to me. I believe they are a little rarer to find than you think.
