I have searched around 100 rolls. My question is that we have come across a lot of BU 1990's that have interesting "bubbling", like lines and unique looking patterns. Are these worth keeping or just send back to the bank? I'm obviously keeping all copper's, BU's, and any key dates. Any help any of you can give on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

i have found a bunch of bu 1982 cents.
stupid question, how do you tell if copper or zinc type.?
does the size of the date change the value.?

Well, some would say to keep all BU's.. I don't really personally, but I tend to have the scruples over deciding if a coin is BU or not, so I let them all go. But from what I've read on here, the bubbles were pretty common in the early zinc years because they hadn't figured out the right way to prevent air bubbles.. (I think that's what they are, anyway..) |

Coinsearcher, thanks. I actually do keep all BU's although the way it's going it will be too excessive. I'll dump most of the "bubble" coins, but some are just too interesting so we'll stick those somewhere as well. We have bank rolls as well as 2 buckets we've saved for years and as always it's fun to look through them. The only things that is a lot is examining each one for errors and such, particularly with not finding a one after 500 coins. I'll have to get a scale to weigh my 82's to see which are copper.

I have become very very picky about which BUs to keep... I've developed a philosophy when I'm looking at a particular coin that if I have to take longer than a few seconds to decide if it's really BU or not, well, then it isn't. I coin has to stand on it's own and "Wow!" me, or back into the return bin it goes. But even with being picky, I still manage to save a lot of pennies. No marks, no scratches, no spots or problems of any sort... only well struck, bright, red examples are kept. I feel lucky to be able to be so picky, but there are a lot of cents out there. |

Today's box. 4 wheats  12 Canadian 23% copper But the one standout of the batch was this.....  It still amazes me coins this nice can be found in rolls. In hand this coin just glows.  Edited by unholyroller

Went from an awesome box yesterday to a pretty crappy box box. The coin gods give and they take away...
445 coppers, not bad actually, but:

58d x2 (one of them is pretty mangled)
4 canadians: 78, 75, 85, 2005

So far I have found 7 2000 Close AM's 4 1998 Close AM's and a 1997 dbl ear for coins newly minted. I have well over a thousand wheaties. I found a 1909 vdb xf. And several indian heads. I have a jar full of memorial coppers in AU+ to Bu. I'm a nut. I figure I have gone through over 300,000 in my search. |

Browsing through the posts I noticed alot of people report there copper finds. Do alot of you keep all the pre-1982's you find?

I pull out all the copper. I used to keep it stashed but after a while it was just taking up too much space and the money in it could have been better used for other things so I started selling $50FV at a time on ebay. Typically sells for $88 (shipping included) And jaymee, be sure you're pulling WIDE AMs for those years, Close AM for 1992 Edited by jedichef

Luckily we have seen a lot of coppers in our rolls. Since I'm not finding many wheats, no WAM's, few S mints I am thankful for at least this. It is odd though to us, we seem to average 25 per 100 in copper. That seems to be higher than what I remember a few years ago. |
