Cbass, wow what a great return of copper! I wonder how long it will be before copper cents are harder to find like wheats. I have only recently started keeping the copper myself.

Average copper returns are around 15-20% here. However, I buy bags from the coin machines and I often get better returns. I have also gotten at least 2 big wheat dumps in bags.

I had to give up keeping copper for the sake of copper. about 50% per box of copper was just too much and taking up too much room. though wheats seem to take up no room at all because they are so few and I will always find room for wheats. thinking about getting a box today just in case more Pax rolls through to have something to do if the banks are open.

I sell the coppers. I don't have the room for them and can always find more.
Shadz - are you saying that you averaged over 50% copper per box? That seems awfully high compared to the 1000s of dollars worth I have gone through and from what I have seen elsewhere.
You must really be in a sweet spot for copper

I normally don't post my Lincoln finds but today was fairly exceptional. Four rolls I picked up at the bank today were marked "USA" and the finds were as follows: 1910(3), 1914, 1917(4), 1917D, 1917S, 1918(6), 1919(4), 1920(6), 1920S(2), 1924, 1924D, 1925, 1926(2), 1926D, 1927, 1928(3), 1934(3), 1935(3), 1936(4), 1936D, 1937(2), 1938(2), 1938D, 1938S, 1939(3), 1940(7), 1940D, 1940S, 1941(12), 1941D, 1942(10), 1942D, 1943, 1944(10), 1944D(3), 1945(9), 1945D(2), 1946(8), 1946D(2), 1946S, 1947S, 1948(2), 1949, 1950(2), 1950D, 1951, 1951D, 1952, 1952D(2), 1953D, 1954, 1955D(2), 1956, 1956D(2), 1958. Five were hole fillers which brings my LWC count to 107/140 :).

I just checked the mintage numbers and I'm very excited about the 1924D. Based on the PCGS website it is VF-20/25 and by far my best American CRH find!

Thanks CoinCbass. I'm lucky enough to still be able to get pennies in Canada. I'm kind of assuming this bunch was collected for quite some time. Likely an older person passed away and their family brought them to the bank without a second thought. Glad I got the chance to save them because these were all destined for the melting pot.

I found some cool coins in today's search found 750 copper pennies in $30 also found ten Wheaties and a few Canadians. my favorite find of of the bag was a 1943 steel penny. also found a weird penny that almost looks like its gold plated any ideas?

Quote: Shadz - are you saying that you averaged over 50% copper per box? That seems awfully high compared to the 1000s of dollars worth I have gone through and from what I have seen elsewhere. Not counting the 1982, because I still haven't sorted them other than by mintmark; I was keeping 20 to 30 rolls of mostly 70s cents per box as well as the normal 10 wheats cents. Seems the 70s just love me I guess. Seems to be about the way all coin types are for me, the majority is from the 70s, except dollars. Wold love to have more of those from the 70s. My notes being a bit fuzzy since I stopped counting, 10 boxes, 230 rolls spent that were 1983 and up, excluding 2009. 4 rolls of 2009 and 3 rolls of wheats kept from those 10 boxes, and a full box of 1970s kept... 270-57=213 rolls of copper I had no more room for. Please don't do any math and tell me how much copper value I got rid of, because I made peace with it already and don't want to think about it anymore. Out of sight, out of mind. If it helps, they were all Brinks boxes. Maybe someone else can find all those 70s, and let me find some 2009s instead.

@ CoinCbass How do you sell your coppers? I know ebay is there but it is just not cost effective.

O-train â€" glad you were able to intervene! Funny how some folks can't be bothered to investigate the value of coins clearly marked and simply accept the cash value. Then again, many of us long for those rare occasions when one hits the jackpot. Congrats on the find!
Skibdib â€" I share your pain today but I've got nobody to blame but me; my dump (nickels though) I was searching through again (oddly, I dropped these rolls off weeks ago only to resurface today).
As for pennies, 20 rolls netted 10 Wheatbacks including two '53 S (one was an upgrade), 16 Canadian, and a couple of S mint Memorials. On average, 15 coppers per roll searched.

Well the trend of less and less Canadian cents from CRH boxes seems to be continuing. Only one in the last two boxes I have searched (actually, it was in the next to last roll of the second box). BUT, I found my first ever counter-stamped cent, a 1976 cent with the state of Michigan on it. Maybe I will find the other 49!
