Yes, someone must have inherited/stole some proof sets and then broke them up for spending.

Yep, I must have gotten pretty lucky to find it without much damage at all. I found it in one of the plastic-wrapped rolls from a Brinks box, so from the edge of the roll I could tell the rim was much thicker and brighter than the other cents. I have always wondered how proofs like this get set free, it is a little sad that someone felt the need to spend a penny from a proof set, but it has a safe home now  |

Finished a box today.. Bad in quantity of wheats.. Less than 10 with 4 in first 2 rolls, but 2 hole fillers... 1920 and 1937-d in rough shape. I'll take it!

About 75% done with a box, terrible just terrible. No fillers, and maybe about 10-15 wheats all in the 40s-50s.
Might have to give dimes a shot for 2 boxes before I come back to pennies

This weeks box wasn't the most exciting but I still had some fun. only 7 Wheats 15% copper about 10 others worth keeping for rolls and these worth a picture This cent from Panama  This one real freaked me out. How did this make it through Brinks and into a roll? It's plastic and really light.    ...and the only real find of the box 1941-S Large S (ok not sure, going to have to get some closer pics and ask)  Edited by rdlem

12 MWRs cents: 3 LWC including 1 1958D AU red brown It was the first time I looked for errors and I found my first error  , a 1983 slightly off center cent. Edited by fastgc

Nice finds, rdelm! That play money coin had me cracking up, I believe those do retail for more than $0.01 so it's a nice score. And I'd agree the '41 looks like a large S from here.
fastgc, we'd love to see some pictures of your finds too!

Went through a box of cents and only got 4 wheats the oldest a 1944.

Yes!!   Working on a box now - sllloooowwwww going. Light on copper so far, so I suspect low LWC yield this go around. So the hunt for varieties and errors amongst the LMCs is on. |

Posted this in the modern coin grading section. MS63 RD 54 Wheat found in a bank roll, this has to be one of my best penny finds from the bank.    Mark |

I will post pics soon. Looking through a few rolls that I did not search for errors, I found a 1987 D cent that has the "i" in "in god we trust" missing. The rest of the letters are weak. Is this a Struck Through Grease error? |
