Well, I'm halfway through another Fed box of 50 BWR's. Have pulled 7 wheats and 1 Canadian so far. Best find is a 1920-S Lincoln in G4 condition. Not bad, but with a 30 million coin mintage this coin is not as scarce as the 1932-D Lincoln that I pulled from my last box. That coin had a mintage of about 10.5 million since coin production was greatly reduced in the early years of the Great Depression. I'm finding more coppers in this box too. I seem to br finding about 10 coppers per roll, which is pretty decent. I am definitely having a good time doing this, but have to try to do most of my searching when the wife is out of the house. She thinks coin roll hunting is a colossal waste of time, which is how wives always seem to feel about any hobby that doesn't involve THEM. <SIGH>. It's not like I haven't tried to get her involved but she lacks the patience for this type of hobby. It doesn't supply enough instant gratification to entice her to participate. It's a shame. So I must pursue this hobby when she is not around so as not to annoy her.  such is life... |

found this one today in a roll. its a little smaller than a lincoln, dont know much about it looks neat though.   Edited by schris252

I know what you mean BadThad. Several years ago I went through a can of foreign, (mostly Asian), coins that belonged to my father-in-law. He got the coins from his Dad who was in the U.S. Merchant Marine and traveled all over the world in the 1930's and 1940's. Well, my wife thought I was nuts spending long hours pouring over these coins and trying to decipher the Chinese characters so as to identify them. She was greatly surprised when I subsequently identified one of the coins as a rare 1911 Chinese Dragon Dollar. I sent it off to ANACS where it graded VF35. I subsequently sold it to a Chinese collector in New York City for $800 via ebay, much to the delight of my father-in-law. Since then, she understands that it is possible to make money looking for rare coins, but she remains skeptical that the return on investment for the time spent searching for rarities is worthwhile in the long run. So, she tolerates my hobby, but is under no illusions that we're likely to strike it rich due to my roll searching any time soon. This being the case, I have to restrain myself from overindulging to the detriment of other things or Momma will put the quietus on the roll-searching! <CHUCKLE> |

I finished searching my second $25 Fed Box this evening. It was a little better than the first box.  Here are the totals: * 10 Wheat Cents * 415 LMR P&D Mint Coppers * 3 LMR S-Mint Coppers * 2 Canadian Cents * 1 1991 Zincoln with a Missouri Counter-Stamp Percentage-wise, 17.12% of this box was copper. Wheats comprised 0.4% of the box. S-Mint LMR comprised 0.12% of the box. Candadian cents comprised 0.08% of the box. All the Wheats except for one were common-dates from the 1940's and '50's. The oldest wheatie was a 1920-S that probably grades as a borderline Poor-3 to Good-4. The nicest grade Wheatie was a 1958-D in AU with partial mint luster remaining.  The 1991 Zincoln with the MO counter-stamp is my first time to find a counter-stamped cent in circulation. The Canadian cents were common dates, but I live in Texas so finding any Canadian cents is always a surprise. Here are the pictures:      Edited by ConfederateHalf

 I believe I may have found my first " Greaser" but am not positive about it. It's a 2004-D Zincoln. The "4" in the date is about half gone as is a portion of the "D" mintmark. The word Liberty also is partially smeared and the motto "In God We Trust" looks kind of mushy in places too. I'm thinking this is from die grease around the edges of the coin. For comparison, I took a photo of this coin next to another 2004-D Zincoln. What do y'all think?  |
