Hello,
We are in the process of purchasing a large world collection, with lots of high dollar pieces. The heirs have a fairly significant grouping of Ancients, but these are outside of where I am comfortable making a fair offer. Looks like there are some pieces that in the several hundred dollar range, to pieces they paid up to a couple of thousand on from reputable dealers (Berk, Waddell, ect), mixed in with junk and a few possible counterfeits.
Would be looking for a specialist in Roman and Greek who would be able to assist, and we would obviously compensate you on this. Would provide you with the measurements and any rough attributions we had, along with photos.
Total number of pieces in the ancients section is roughly 110-125.

We can do it for free here as Echizento says. Start by taking good pics of both coin sides, and capturing measurements of each coin. For some coins we will need pics of the edges if counterfeiting is suspected. One or two coins at a time and you'll get highly accurate, crowd-sourced answers. Some on the forum are experts, others expert-amateurs, and everyone is passionate and knowledgeable. Interested to see what you've got...  |

jdmern; Looks like you have an ebay shop so perhaps I can help letting you know what items will go for in an open market if bidding started at $1. You'd probably put them up with a price make offer it seems looking at your shop but they might help you decide what to offer the family to be successful eventually yourself. Just let me know if that would help. (You can also do the same with one of your employees I see you have if they search past sales on ebay, they just have to be careful it was an open auction and not some one off high price make offer where the person paid too much.) Might make a nice learning project if any people on your end have the time. |

Many thanks for the offer, I'm actually working with one of my staff members on the pricing once we have correct attribution, looks like most of these are fairly well known types, which will make pricing & valuation much easier!

Well if you can put these up and let them sit for a long time you will certainly do well in the long run with a coin like your Jewish War for example. The one below I sold in an open auction with $1 start seven days on Nov 26th of this year and it went for just $41 and mine actually said Zion as you see. So patient people do well and ancients are a patients persons game for dealers with a finite set of collectors who are so specialized there might only be four at any one time interested online in the coin. I just don't know how you normal dealers handle so much inventory keeping track of everything and answering all those offers repeatedly as at 5 listings a day that is just 35 coins at any time to worry about for me. But my model makes no real business sense of course.  Edited by louisvillekyshop

Yes, keeping inventory straight is one of the more difficult aspects of the volume we do, but the biggest thing is redundancy, so there is always a backup 'check' for whenever something is inevitably misfiled. Although, without coin shows, it's amazing how well organized the inventory stays without people digging through it...
