As mentioned before, I use electrolysis on crusties that do not respond to even two years of soaking. Many come out slugs or too far gone to identify. But then I get a nice one like this, which I think is Constantine I. Good enough to see nice details on hair and mustache. Even the abs on Jupiter.

A lot of detail on that one, including quite a big head on Jupiter.

That looks absolutely mint fresh. An amazing coin. Kudos to you for being patient to expose the hidden beauty of this piece of art.

Me too. I wish we knew more about them. Only a few decades after this bronze was minted the knowledge to produce such a detailed specimen would be lost for a thousand years.

Really? I had no idea there was that long of a time In between.

Also EDIT: Kudos to the OP. That turned out fantabulous.

I don't mean to offend Byzantine, Islamic or medieval collectors, but just from cursory glances the artistry of the ancient Greek and to a lesser degree Roman coinage disappeared until the 15th/16th centuries. Is there anything coined between say, 400 and 1400AD that compares to this?

If I'm wrong, please correct me. Don't just give me the silent treatment the way the wife does...

Exquisite high relief on many Greek coins. And the am,azingly skilled engravers are all unknown?

Not all. Kimon and Euainetos are known from the Greek era. See: https://coinweek.com/ancient-coins/...d-euainetos/

The July 1996 issue of The Celator has an article about "The Signed Bronzes of Syracuse."
