These 2 coins look different. How would one designate their grade/looks? Give me a break I'm a paper money guy.

One is proof strike (mirrored fields), the other is an uncirculated (business) strike.

These US Constitution Bicentennial gold coins were among the first coins struck after the modern US commemorative coin era began in 1982 - they were just the second modern $5 gold commemorative coins ever struck. (The 1986 $5 gold coins for the Statue of Liberty Centennial program were the first half eagle pieces produced by the US Mint.)

As a result, the coins were popular with a larger group of collectors which is reflected in their final sales/mintage figures: 214,225 for the Uncirculated version and 651,659 for the Proof version.

These high mintage figures have created a supply that far exceeds today's collector/numismatic demand and so the value of most examples is now pegged to the coin's melt value.

This was my first gold coin purchase, the proof version. Somewhere in the neighborhood of a hundred dollars back then. The design is beautiful, perfect if not for the quill on the obverse covering the eagle.
