i have other similar coins but all of them are more recent dates. I just looked at this one a bit closer because it was the oldest one I have.

Nice example! I remember these from when I was a kid in the old USSR, though not that early of a date.

Kurt - There was nothing about the Russian striking process that would increase or decrease the frequency relative to other nations' coins. Just a random "freak", certainly not common but probably not all that rare either.
It's indeed very dramatic, I'll second that.

I'm sure you're right...I just don't know how their tolerances were.
Someday, it would be fun to find photos of coin presses in different countries.
