I found 10-15 nickels of this variety in a box I acquired in early 2020. The error intrigued me. I haven't seen a consistent error like this on a modern nickel before.

There is a raised bulge/sliver of metal that completely "breaks" the smaller of the two pillars and distorts (lays behind) the larger of the two.

Thoughts?

Cheers

Looks to be some kind of die gouge. The incuse gouge on the die will form a raised area on the coin after striking

I am thinking Die Gouge also. The location of the gouge would be on the high part of the die and
the fact you have numerous ones the same also indicates it would be on the die.

Thanks for your responses. This error has been bugging me since I found these coins in early 2020 (this clarifies things for me). Cheers
