I'm trying to find a correct attribution to this thaler. The closest I got is Davenport 6955-A, but the examples I have found have a clear clover between the helmets. Any comments appreciated, and links to similar would be helpful. Originally I had it as Dav 6953.

GERMAN STATES, Mansfeld-Artern. Thaler. 1617 AK. Eisleben. Christian Ludwig. Obv: Saint George slaying the dragon, orb at upper right. Rev: Helmeted arms, date and mintmasters initials seperated to sides. 28.40 g. 42 mm. Dav 6955-A.

Try http://www.acsearch.info.

I can find several examples there with the filled clover. This one is attributed as Dav 6952, though I haven't taken the time to see if it's a close enough match to yours:

Thank you. I found a 6952 attributed by NGC thats got the filled clover and mark above. But the size and placement of the AK, and "flower pattern" to the left and right is different. I am unsure about the importance of the differences, but I will keep looking. The picture in Davenport is to dark to tell.

For what it is worth, I trust the attribution of a German auction house for a German coin, more than I trust the attribution of a U.S. grader.

They sometimes get European coins wrong (I am looking at one in an upcoming auction ).

Great coin, and I think you have researched it already more deeply than I have. Good luck!
