1980 Lincoln Penny Error Or Post Mint Damage?

Hello. I'm new here and still learning so your expertise is much appreciated! I found, what appears to be, a heavily damaged 1980 Penny but the sloppy formation of letters had me wondering if it was an error coin. My boyfriend did a google search and saw that there is a 1980-D Penny that looks very similar. I don't see evidence m of a D under the date but I suppose it's possible. Any info would be very helpful!
