Hi All,
I was looking more closely at half a dozen Morgan dollars my late grandfather gave me and I noticed one has some unusual layering (for lack of a better term) issues.
The issue is only on the obverse--addition of a thin layer encompassing the eye, cheek and most of the nose and upper lip. There's also a triangular-shaped "fleck" between the two stars off the point of the nose. Might be hard to tell from the images, but the "layer" is raised or elevated with mostly sharp edges.

Was hoping someone might explain what this error is and the impact on the value of the coin.
Thanks in advance for the feedback and pointers!
Dave

Possibly some sort of adhesive that might dissolve in acetone?

Good call Coinfrog. It does have that appearance. Plus an acetone soak can't hurt anything.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Coinfrog!
I also thought it might be tape or glue, but was afraid to try to mess with/remove it. You were right--it's tape.
Welp. How embarrassing is that for a first post? Ha!

No need for an apology - I say at least one embarrassing thing here every week.

Mine are typically an answer to a GTG (guess the grade) post that misses by a mile....

Thanks dave700x for the welcome and the compliment on the first images. (Science nerd here, so there's that OC part of me that usually insists things be "clear".)
Glad to have joined the CCF!
