I am sorry to hear you have been taken for a ride by this fake coin. A painful lesson. I would contact ebay immediately. I am sure the seller will dispute your assertion that it is fake, and my experience is that the first person to raise it with ebay has the strongest case. The seller will delay responding as long as possible so that normal return and refund timescales are expended, so get onto it immediately. I know the advice is too late, but before laying out for any other expensive coins, check on forums like this for an opinion. Sadly ebay is awash with fakes at the moment, and reporting them to ebay before they sell has no effect.

Thank you so much for your response. Strangely enough I am reasonably knowledgable ont the Tudor period and having decided to collect coins, I decided to build a coin collection on this period but when I saw this coin, and received reassurances it was an original,it seemed too good to be true (and as it happened it was!)so I went away from what little knowledge I had and paid the price.
I've read an awful lot of coin books in the past month and have also joined this forum so hopefully I wont be so naive next time but being the type of person I am, I guess I didnt ecpect to be lied to. But thanks you once again, an embarrassing and painful lesson but one I will learn from.

Although you have left positive feedback in which you state 'item as described' it wasn't, it's clearly fake, the seller knows it's fake but didn't describe it as such. You can get your refund through ebay. They're at it again too, look at the current listings. I note sloppy uploading of photos although I have no doubt there will be a 1847 crown available as this is another coin widely faked. Something which puzzles me: why are they shipping from Poland if located in Crewe? https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/mckenp10..._nkw=&_from=

The payment went to the guy who was apparently listing it but the coin defo came from Poland. I wondered whether They have stolen someone's identity? Its all been reported to Paypal and ebay and I will see what comes back but like I say, lesson learned.

Those new coins posted was when I realised something was up as even to my untrained eye I knew it was highly unlikely that a Cromwell coin in that condistion would appear on ebay without a reserve. I also checked out the pics and realised they differed. By the way, these came on fistly just after I bought the coin, It was advertised as 'Oliwer' which unless it was a pretty obvious spelling mistake makes me think there are actually polish people behind this?

It is either one seller or possibly a group - definitely from Poland as all the coins are shipped from there. They open a new ebay account - sell a few fakes, get a negative feedback - so open a new account at a new fictitious location and start again.

So to keep you in the loop I received this email this morning from the 'seller'. It's now in the hands of PayPal and will be in the hands of ebay on Tuesday which is the first day they say they will get involved:- I'm so sorry, I didn't know the coin was not genuine, for two days I have been trying to return the money, but it still shows to me that there is a mistake and they are not able to refund.

Don't worry too much Raider, I was caught out on buying a pocket watch a few years ago.

Sadly it's the same old story with ebay. I am afraid I wouldn't buy anything from that site from any category. It is an online boot sale that peddles fake and stolen goods. ebay doesn't care and are just as guilty. They recently lied on TV saying they actively remove fake and scam sales and have designated teams to do the watchdog on the site. Which we all know is complete BS. For peace of mind and this goes for new and seasoned collectors Avoid ebay at all costs . Nothing on there is what it seems ask in forums for reputable dealers or of dates of coin fairs near your area. It is a different world and you certainly will get the correct advice. I have spent years reporting fakes to ebay and not 1 has ever been removed by their hand. As some of the guys on here know I also watch from the side lines on FB which now is the new ebay and I have intervened several times when questionable coins are being sold. If it looks to good to be true it generally 99% of the time is.
