I got this beauty at a really good price and am super happy to own it. The goal is to build a collecting of Top Pop coins for all four years. The 5 Rin, which was equal to 1/2 Sen, was only produced from 1916 to 1919. It seems like such an odd face value. You exchange five 1 Rin for a 1/2 Sen or 5 Rin. This is nifty because 1/2 Sen and 5 Rin were not produced in the same years. Lets break down years of production. 1 Rin: 1873 - 1884 1/2 Sen: 1873 - 1888 5 Rin: 1916 - 1919 1 Sen: 1873 - 1945 So the 1/2 Sen only ran until 1888, and maybe the Japanese government realized there was a need for a "nickel" type of coin because so many folks were walking around with 1 Rins in their pockets? It is a cute little FV coin and I really enjoy it. Report this Post to the Staff
