What could cause a half dollar to have such a low weight? I had it tested at a coin shop with a spectrometer gun. It is the right metal composition for a clad, just the weight is wrong. It is just under 9 grams. The coin shop dealer told me to take it to a coin show and ask a grading service like PCGS about it. I took it to two different coin shops and neither one had an explanation. The side by side picture is a normal 1971 on the left and on the right, is the light weight half dollar. Also I put it up next to a quarter. Could this be a wrong stock error? Do people collect half dollars with unusual weights?
