relicarius New Member Ireland 19 Posts	Posted 02/16/2021 08:44 am Hi everyone, I am very happy to show you my newest acquisition. It's a Trajan sestertius in bronze. It weighs 23,5 g and has 34 mm of diameter. It certainly is fantastic in hand, I hope you like it. Although it does not look like it, I added a close up photo of the patina in case any of you guys can tell me if it shows any signs of developing the feared "bronze desease"... I hope not! Really like the regal portrait and is that a aegis on the far shoulder? Also the reverse is annona? Probably my favourite emperor, visited his birthplace Italica a few years back and really recommend it if you ever get the chance.. I don't think it's an aegis, but you are right about the reverse, it's Annona as it depicts the prow of a galley, modius and ears of grain. So my title is wrong, I said it was Abundantia. Although I live in Ireland at the moment, I'm actually from Spain, so hopefully I will get a chance to visit Italica near Seville next time I go home... Report this Post to the Staff
sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21786 Posts	Posted 02/16/2021 5:58 pm The green tinge is not an indication of Bronze disease, although the chemistry is still the same. (copper hydroxy carbonate). BD is a problem if there is pitting; that is not the case here. Just store it in dry conditions and it will remain perfectly OK. With most collectors, a slight even green tinge on a coin that presents as nicely as this one does, can actually attract a slightly higher value, due to eye appeal. Museums often use Renwax, and store / display coins in open trays. Report this Post to the Staff
